Te Korowai Mokopuna Project launched at Barnardos AGM
Barnardos NZ has a strong history of working across the traditional boundaries of early childhood education and social work. In South Auckland we're using this unique blend of services to make a bigger difference for vulnerable children through Te Korowai Mokopuna Project. This unique project was officially launched at the Barnardos 2014 Anuual General Meeting on 19 November 2014.
The project began in 2012 by simply locating a social worker in three of our Barnardos KidStart Childcare early learning centres in South Auckland - all of which are in areas of high deprivation. This has now grown to become Te Korowai Mokopuna Project.
Still in its early stages, the project is starting to see some great results, with the centres seen as neutral, universal access points where families and whānau can find the support and connections they need without the stigmatisation around social work. As we build relationships with these families we learn more about what they want and need to make life better for their children.
Te Mokopuna Project is proudly supported by Save the Children NZ.
