Every Child Counts was established in 2004 and driven by the core agencies of Barnardos, Plunket, UNICEF, Save the Children, and the Institute of Public Policy at AUT. Mana Ririki has now replaced the Institute of Public Policy on our Steering Group.
Our vision is: A nation that values children and ensures that every child is secure, healthy and happy.
Our mission is: Advocating for the policies, practices and attitudes that enable children to thrive.
What we do
We raise public awareness and promote public policies that:
- Place children at the centre of policy and planning
- Ensure every child gets a good start in life
- End child poverty
- End maltreatment, child abuse and neglect
- Increase the status of children and the child rearing role of families, whānau, hapū and iwi
Every Child Counts also coordinates the Tick for Kids campaign. Tick for Kids is a broad coalition of individuals and organisations working to make children's rights and interests a central focus. Read more here.
